![]() ![]() Also, some weapon types kind of make it mandatory to use a torp for the set bonus like the Nausican set.If you haven’t been sleeping on the job like I did with Star Trek Online for most of 2019, you probably already know about the Beam Overload changes made back in August 2019. If you use a torp at all should depend on whether you have enough weapon energy to run 8 energy weapons (works best on cruisers with weapon cost reduction or possible on other ships with the latest event console) and if you have enough tactical boff slots to get a torpedo spread in. You'll have to get used to broadside with those ships. For 4/4 ships I'd recommend using 2 omnis and 2 250 degree beams in the rear slot. I always put my torps front, since I want them to fire regulary for the Supercharged Trait which is a massive boost to damage, crit hit and critical damage.įor the third rear slot in a 5/3 ship, you may also use the Kinetic cutting beam. The crafted plasma emission torpedo is also nice if you have a plasma build or some science stats (EPG+CtrlX). Other decent torpedo types worth using are the Crystaline one from the Pheonix Vendor (Antiproton), the Agony Phaser Torpedo from a past event, the Prolonged Engagement Torpedo (Kinetic) from the Weekend event vendor, the Kelvin Timeline from a lockbox or Exchange (only Kinetic, but high fire rate). All Mk XV everything does make quite a difference so does actually having a well-conceived set of items, skills and traits. (This changes if you're going for a true broadsides build, obviously, but from what I see, that's not actually what people tend to do these days.)Īs fort the a few hits and move on thing, that's really a matter of gear quality and build. Given cruisers (the typical beam boats) have 3 or more aft weapon slots, there's normally room to splash in a torpedo (or mine) that's nice-to-have for some set bonus, but not good enough to consider putting in a fore slot, without substantially affecting dps. But you can only ever have 2 omni-directional beams equipped. A common build type is beams fore, omni-directional beams aft. I can't think of any torps that are quite as must-have for other energy types, though admittedly that might be because I'm not as familiar with them.īeyond that, you can generally have torpedoes on beam boats. (More shield drain means more hitting the hull sooner.) Similarly, for polaron, the Morphogenic 3-piece set including torpedo from "Home" is fairly popular, but there's much more debate on whether the bonus is worth the torpedo effort than for the Nausicaan set.įor phaser, having the Quantum Phase Torpedo (from the "Sunrise" mission") as part of the corresponding 3-piece set is worth considering. (And that was essentially quoting an elite build optimizer.) Whether a beam boat absolutely should have a torpedo depends very much on energy type.įor disruptor, the Nausicaan 3-piece set pointed out is almost too good to not use. You'll eventually pick up so many specialty consoles that you'll want some decent ones but don't break the bank on consoles. By then you'll have your reputations to 6 so grind yourself an iconian engine gears set and maybe 2 omega grounds for your sqwuishy away teamers and 2 temporal ground sets for your tactical pair. the cannon spread is weaksauce since you have to nose into the missles closing distance while you clear then out of your sky. ![]() Eventually you'll want to be able to slot 5 cannons in the front and be a dps monster but keep the back 2 beam arrays and a torp in back for your fire at will when you ♥♥♥♥♥ run away from nasty missile volleys or swarms of tractor mines or things like that. Start in on your torps then, you want to look for CrtH on them torps but for later need only maybe only 1 or 2 op torps, Once you're comfortable with beams and torps and you get yourself an escort with 5 front and 3 rear weapons slap your beams on the corners your best torp on the back and start in on your 3 dual heavy cannons in the front. ![]() In the storyline you'll come across some good gear lewts every now and then, grind those when you get to them to dress out your Boff's and consoles and such. While you're beam boating you want to get your op set of engines and shields, then make sure your beam arrays are shweet with 4 corners as mk xii Dam x3. ![]() They're very forgiving and cruisers are the most tanky but they are slow kills with long drawn out fights. Beam boats are a good starter while you're building up your currencies and learning the ropes. ![]()
